Kirfield Quarry
This is a good place for beginners who want to practice their navigation
skills, and see some nice artificial wrecks. The maximum depth is around 30', the visibility is decent most of the time. The
good thing about this place is that there are no boats so you do not have to carry a flag, it has easy entry to the water,
and there are no waves or strong currents. There are some thermoclines where fresh water enters the quarry so becareful there.
What can you see there? Several cars, a sailboat, a fiberglass boat with a very nice keyboard as a board instrument, a
lot of sunken trees, several rock formations, plenty of sunfish and small mouth bass, and a utility plane. Apparently the
owner is planning to add more "sunken treasures" yearly so visit this place whenever you have a chance.
Bottom composition ranges from weeds to rock and plenty of silt which can be disturbed quite easily. I could not find any
facilities at this place, however there is a restaurant at the beggining of the road. There is a $5 entry fee per diver, or
$20 if there are less than 4 divers.
Scuba 2000 has a map on how to get there.
Here is the link to it, many thanks Scuba 2000!!
